General Summary: Under the direction of the Nursing Director, and under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Extern will perform assigned patient care activities while maintaining high quality standards. The role is to function as the LNA "partner" for the RN. This includes all of the responsibilities assumed by LNAs, but can also include hands on experience in other aspects-supervised by the RN-but does not include medication nor IV administration. The student will have an opportunity to strengthen critical thinking skills and problem solving.
Experience and Education: The Nurse Extern maintains enrollment in an accredited baccalaureate of nursing program; and has completed his or her junior year. Maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.0. The Nurse Extern must have completed two clinical rotations; and will provide verification of clinical competence from the school they attend. The Nurse Extern must have a current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support Certification (BLS). The student will be licensed in NH as an LNA.
NEW LONDON HOSPITAL WILL BE HIRING 5 (FIVE) NURSE EXTERNS WHO WILL WORK A 13 WEEK DURATION FROM MAY 20,2019 - AUGUST 10, 2019.
NURSE EXTERNS WILL BE CHOSEN FOR ONE OF THE FOLLOWING DEPARTMENTS:
SURGICAL SERVICES, MED SURG, SPECIAL CARE UNIT OR EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
