Laboratory Information System (LIS) Analyst

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Serves on teams that include project management, analytic, and technical staff. Develops prototypes and structures that demonstrate advanced clinical laboratory concepts. Develops specifications including object models, written descriptions of functionality, and mock-ups of screen design to aid in laboratory system implementation. Performs and documents laboratory workflow pre and post system implementation. Provides clinical laboratory expertise. In general, stays abreast and keeps key constituencies informed of the latest developments and innovations in clinical laboratory informatics. Services as a repository of knowledge regarding clinical computing issues; provides expertise about the state of the art of clinical laboratory information systems. Monitors ongoing clinical laboratory IS projects insuring adherence to established timetables. Prepares course documentation, along with training coordinator, and helps facilitate the training of both new and current applications. Participates in on call support for the clinical laboratory systems including over weekends and off shifts. Receives and responds to and insures the timely and effective resolution of any and all clinical laboratory systems problems. Participates in system configuration and testing of clinical applications impacted by upgrades and changes to the clinical laboratory system. Exemplifies customer service excellence. Secondary Functions: Project Management: Monitors projects and reports status. Measurements: Timeliness of project completion. Management of project deliverables. Advises management of project delays and roadblocks as appropriate. Testing: Performs and monitors unit/system/function/volume testing. Measurements: Defects detected by users on production are minimal. Accuracy/thoroughness of problem identification and resolution. Effective problem monitoring. Completeness of written test plans. Training: Prepares, monitors preparation of course documentation and curriculum. Trains/monitors training of both new and current applications. Measurements: Client/student satisfaction with course content. Quality and accuracy of student proficiency measures. Curriculum completion in identified timeframes. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: College degree required. BS in Laboratory Sciences or Information Technology preferred Experience: Willingness to actively participate in a large complex project. Several years clinical experience in the hospital laboratory setting required. Experience with using clinical laboratory applications. Statistical knowledge and experience desirable. Ability to interact with clinical staff at all levels in a health care organization. Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Project, Powerpoint, and Crystal Reports a plus. Licensure/Certifications: ASCP Certification
