Scope -- Direct Materials, Indirect Services, Materials, Administration and Capital

Expectations of the Director, leading -- local, regional and worldwide managers and buyers for the Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) portion of the business, interfacing with Shared Services, leveraging and supporting the growth of the business objectives.

  • Meet or exceed annual saving targets by location and category
  • Negotiate supply agreements/contracts
  • Define, establish and lead a procurement management team through the sourcing strategy process (including all phases of marketplace analysis, supplier selection, supplier relationship, designation, contracting and accreditation)
  • Solve complex problems important to the success of the organization and draw on experience to successfully negotiate lowest/best price
  • Work in self-managed team environment
  • Ensures the required teams are in place to manage supplier relationships and implement on-going measurement and performance improvement processes
  • Lead the supplier assessment process risk matrices (QBR's, Scorecards, Criticality)
  • Track the development of new technologies
  • Price/cost analysis
  • Marketplace benchmarking for best practices and pricing
  • General business skills -- including the ability to understand client requirements from a strategic perspective and to translate those requirements into a supplier base that meets all client expectations and future needs
  • Works effectively with both Albany International/AEC and supplier personnel, at all levels, including senior management
  • Supply Chain Security and Risk Mitigation to protect businesses
  • Savings, quality, lead time, and inventory management
    • Lead the overall team savings goal established each year
    • Lead efforts dedicated to cost savings and supply chain efficiency improvements
    • Reports savings achievements through monthly statistics and quarterly summary, as appropriate

Educational Requirements
  • Minimum Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Chemicals, Engineering, Science, Purchasing, Business, Supply Chain, etc.
  • MBA preferred

  • Minimum 8-15 years' experience in related purchasing, supply chain environments or related disciplines
  • Government contracting and procurement experience
  • Willingness and the experience to travel, domestically and internationally

  • Computer applications (MS Office Suite)
  • ERP Systems experience, SAP preferred
  • Purchasing courses: Ethics, Backdoor Selling, Supplier Quality Process, and Introduction to Negotiations, Strategic Cost Management, eProcurement, Legal Aspects of Purchasing
  • Inventory management courses
  • Leadership, interpersonal skills and teamwork
  • Commodity/category item knowledge, in terms of Albany International Corp's application and the external marketplace
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written to provide effective and timely communications with/to a variety of internal and supplier personnel
  • Sensitivity to different cultures
