FUNCTION: Planning and execution of multifaceted public relations and community sponsorships program that supports the Bank's strategic plan, brand, and business objectives. Promote Community Relations as a business partner and ensures a cooperative and collaborative working relationship with other departments and leaders in the company. Work closely with multiple business lines to help meet Community Relations and Foundation objectives. Plan and manage execution of centers of influence events. Serve as Community Relations liaison to the Portland Metro, Two Rivers, and Seacoast Breakfast Clubs.

Reports to: Community Outreach Manager

Collaborates closely with Community Outreach Manager, Bank senior management & CEO, the Marketing Department, and regional Breakfast Clubs.


Community Relations:
  • In partnership with three Breakfast Clubs: 1. Plans and coordinates regional special events, including Centers of Influence (COI) events, On Us activities, branch openings, and press conferences; 2. Helps maximize publicity for large sponsorships and Foundation grants
  • Evaluates opportunities for regional partnerships
  • Assists with Bank's Initiatives, including PB& J Initiative and Coats for Kids
  • Assists Buoy Local team with regional events and sponsorships
  • On assignment to the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation, assists with Foundation grant making, including nonprofit visits, due diligence, and grants management
  • Plays key role in Foundation's Community Matters More Initiative
  • Assists with promotional item inventory and strategy Bank-wide
  • Helps manage thought leadership efforts - connect internal subject matter experts with external requests for speakers
  • Assists with Crisis Communication in crisis situations
  • Responds to requests for information from field
  • Prepares new employee announcements for distribution to the media
  • Assists Educate Maine with their annual Teacher of the Year Program

  • Develops and maintains a visible presence at important programs and events
  • Promotes 'You Matter More' brand image in all interactions, both internal and external

Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree preferred plus minimum of 3 years experience in communications, philanthropy, and/or community development, or equivalent combined experience
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct, manage and execute ideas into action plans, with exposure to a wide variety of communications vehicles
  • Proven ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with broad cross-section of business managers at all levels
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong project management skills and ability to effectively oversee and implement multiple projects at one time
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated personal computer literacy
  • Ability to handle complex problems
  • Strong communications skills, verbal and written

Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements:
  • General office environment
  • Moderate lifting (to 35 lbs.) required. Moderate reaching, walking, sitting and standing required
