The Employer has temporarily removed this postingUnder the general direction of the Director of Admission Services and the direct supervision of the Office Administrator, within established policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions: Essential Functions: Gathers, verifies, and enters accurate demographic and financial data on patients registered. Pre-registers selective patients either by phone or from history. Obtains consents, assignment of benefits, and releases. Prepares addressograph plates and ID bracelets and distributes with admission forms. Provides patients with information required by federal mandates, i.e., Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Advance Care Directives, and important messages from Medicare/Champus. Copies insurance cards as required. Initiates inquiries and ensures receipt of pre-certification and pre-authorization for selective services and documents appropriately. Informs the Emergency Department Triage Nurse of the arrival of emergency patients, as outlined in the EMTALA Law. Enters Emergency Department charges (Emergency Department staff only). Receives and transcribes bookings and distributes booking data to appropriate area. Plays an important role in Revenue Cycle, working closely with Credit and Case Management to obtain all financial insurance data. Removes previous days discharge from inpatient admissions file. Reviews posted material and participates in staff meetings. Receives, logs, and secures valuables. Releases valuables. Reports problems concerning release. Participates in Admissions Quality Management Program. Participates in appropriate role in disasters, fire drills, fires and other emergency situations. Practices infection control through adherence to department and hospital policies and procedures. Practices safe transport of patients. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school diploma with courses in typing and computer skills; medical terminology preferred. Experience: Customer service relations and office experience preferred. Certification: CPR preferred.
