|Who We Are
New London Hospital is dedicated to providing quality primary care and specialized clinical services in a caring environment. Our vision is to be an outstanding community hospital and keep our values that date back to our founding in 1918, yet continue to grow and meet the ever changing needs of the 15 New Hampshire communities that we serve.
A Critical Access Hospital
Designated as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in 2003 by the State of New Hampshire, we are eligible for federal funding. CAH is a federal program designed to support small rural non-profit hospitals across the country.
Collaboration with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center
Since 2003, our unique collaborative relationship with Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center allows NLH to retain its independence and autonomy while providing a wide range of management services.
Building Toward The Future
Our $21 million hospital expansion began in July of 2007 and will be ready for some of its departments to move in by late 2008, with the remaining to follow. All of our hospital rooms will be updated to be private with family sleeping accommodations and we will have a brand new specialty services wing that will expand our Oncology Department, Coumadin Clinic and Sleep Lab.
- Named mentor hospital by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (a quality think tank out of Boston), and the only such designation for a New Hampshire hospital.
- Among 20 other hospitals in New England to be cited and honored by Harvard Pilgrim for its quality scores.
New London Hospital offers primary care for the entire family. More than 70 doctors provide hospital care at New London Hospital in more than 20 specialties. Our services include:
Diagnostic Imaging & Radiology
Newport Health Center
|Special Care Unit
Specialized Clinical Services
Fully staffed EMT Department
Clough Center (extended care)
Many students looking to begin a health care career come from Colby-Sawyer College and Claremont's Vocational Technical Center, performing their practicums at our hospital and often becoming long-term employees.
It's not unusual for employees to stay with us for 10, 15 and, in one case, 50 years! Our preference to promote from within ensures employees a long-term career with NLH.
Our hospital operations require the skills of many specialties, the knowledge of many professions, and the work and cooperation of every employee. We recruit, retain and build strong relationships with our employees and our patients. The total quality care experience at New London Hospital begins with our 525+ employees, who help serve our patients, volunteers, fellow employees, physicians, and the community through their position every day.

New London Hospital Days
For more than 80 years, NLH has been host to New London Hospital Days - a three-day August festival on the common.
Activities include: a carnival; musical entertainment; healthcare clinics; a children's race; hospital fundraising tents with jewelry, knit items and plants for sale; a chicken barbeque prepared by medical staff; a themed town parade with competing floats; and a triathalon that attracts athletes from near and far. With the exception of external vendors, all proceeds go to benefit the hospital. Volunteers, employees and members of the community get involved and have fun at this annual event with beautiful Lake Sunapee as a backdrop.
Education and Community Wellness Programs
NLH serves as a community resource for general information and in-depth education on a wide range of health related topics available to employees and the general public, including:
- Smoking cessation
- AARP 55 Alive safe driving courses
- Safe Sitter courses
- First Aid
- Emergency Medical Services courses
- Education tours
- Speakers' Bureau
- Breast & Cervical Cancer Screening
Almost every department at NLH has volunteer opportunities allowing for the community to get involved. From clerical support in the Accounting/Finance office to patient support in the Emergency Room to providing customer service and sales duties in our gift shop - the opportunities are fun and rewarding.
